“Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” –Stephen Covey

1) Reflect upon what you read in Chapter 11 of Thriving in College. What does this quote mean to you or how can you apply it to your life?
Chapter 11 is mainly about relating to people and using communication such as, remembering people's names to increase your relationship with them. This quote relates quite well to chapter 11 because i interpret it as, if you want someone to listen to you, you need to listen to them as well. People usually aren't going to like it if you just come to them with your problems and leave after they give you advice, you need to be a friend to have a friend.

2) (Refer to page 380 of the text): Are you a “Crisis Tickler,” “Withholder,” “Irritator,” “Blamer,” or “Gunnysacker?” Explain.

I think i'm more of a crisis tickler because if something is bothering me i really don't like to bring it up bluntly. I hint at things but don't say them right out, which is mainly because i don't want to start a confrontation.

Blog 10!

"Who are the people in your life that you tend to turn to for social support when you are experiencing stress or need personal encouragement?"

I have different people I turn to for different things. Usually it's my mom, we are really close, and that makes me extremely happy because some people tend to lose interest in being bff's with their mom's, but that deffinately isn't me. I turn to my mom for almost anything, whether it's school, boy trouble, friend trouble, or hockey, she is always there for me and gives it her best shot to help me feel better. If my mom isn't around, I look to my bestfriend Carrie, she truely is the best friend I've ever had, she's always there for me and she is really insightful, we met in 6th grade when I moved back to Marquette, she was there for me from the beginning, and the best thing is we have mostly all the same interests, she's been on my hockey team ever since I started, and she helps me succeed in that as well as in school, she's a great teacher and whenever I need her she's there. There are many more people I turn to if those two aren't available, but usually Carrie is the one who helps me through tough situations. Right now she's helping me cope with school and we planned it out so we are in some of the same classes for next semester, so that should help me stride to be better, because we like to compete. :)

1) What are you most stressed-out with at the moment? Why? Is your body re-acting to this stress? Devise a plan to deal with it.
I'm really stressed about all of my final exams and how i'm going to pass all of my classes. My body feels like it isn't responding well and i'm over-tired and don't know what to do. I'm going to try to leave time fo all of my studying and of course sleep!
2) FFN: Chapter 8 / This is a creative writing exercise! Read the following scenario and finish it based on your knowledge after reading Chapter 8.
You are "Raul" and have just immigrated to the American West illegally from Mexico. You brought your wife and two young children with you on a frightening and expensive 4-day journey in the back of a beat-up truck to arrive in Texas. You can't find work there and Border Patrol is cracking down, so you decide to migrate north a bit where you have relatives in Colorado. You are hired on the spot by ConAgra to work in one of their "beef processing" plants.

-Describe in sensory detail your place of employment. (What's it look like, what is going on, how do people act, what do you wear, what is your job? etc..)
Everyone in this factory seem gloomy, and they aren't friendly at all. Everyday i come to work i wear boots, a meat coat and a bunch of metal sheets so the equiptment doesn't hurt me. It is very unsanitary and there is blood everywhere, my duty is to knock the cattle out by shooting them, it is very disturbing, but it's what my job entails and i get paid for it.
-How much $$$ do you earn?
My wage is around 30,000 dollars plus any bonuses i might earn.
-How do your days go? What are your work hours and what do you do after work?
My days are very long, i work a full 8 hour day that drains the life right out of me. After work i come home, eat and go to bed, because this is all i can manage.
-Where do you live, what do you live in, how is your quality of life?
I live in a small house with my family. The quality of my life isn't much worse than it was back in Mexico, actually i feel that it is better than my life back in Mexico, i can provide more for my family, i just wish i could spend more time with them.

Number 8!

What is your main drive to succeed in college and why?

My main drive to succeed is that i want to make something of myself, and actually get a college education. I have many people who want to see me succeed and i don't want to let them, or myself down.

Do you think you might switch your major?

I really don't want to switch my major, but if i don't get into the School Of Radiology I might be forced to.
